Shingles is caused by a reactivation of the Herpes Zoster (chickenpox) virus.

This usually occurs when someones immunity is lowered either by age or illness, poor sleep, poor diet, poor rest etc.

The virus reactivates causing a rash which can spread and then cause Chickenpox in people who aren't immune.

The rash is painful and typically give a burning, tingling, numbness sensation which can last several months even those the rash has gone.

The single live vaccination is recommended for those aged over 50 years old as it reduces the risk of reactivation, rash, pain and spread.
